And The Oscar Goes To…: My Best Picture Oscar Predictions
It’s the beginning of another year, which means another Academy Awards ceremony. I’m honestly surprised I was able to watch all ten nominees for Best Picture this year, which I usually am not able to. I can definitely thank streaming services for the opportunity, though I did watch two in theaters. To celebrate this achievement, it would be best to lay out my thoughts on each of this year’s Best Picture nominees.
Dune (2021)
What’s it About?: Dune is the second film adaptation of Frank Herbert’s seminal 1965 novel about the struggles of a young Duke heir named Paul Atreides (Timothee Chalamet) on the titular desert planet in the far future.
Best Picture Chances: Dune is definitely my favorite out of the ten films. I’m partially biased as I read the book before watching the movie. Besides my feelings, its chances are probably similar to Mad Max: Fury Road in that it will win nearly every technical award but Best Picture. It’s disappointing considering how much I enjoyed the film, but that’s the most likely outcome unless an upset occurs during the ceremony.
